One thing I've found very interesting in recent weeks is just how wacky and off clothing sizes can BE. I'm not a small woman (I'm a solid plus-size) and yet I *know* I'm not some of the sizes I have found myself buying in clothing recently.

Case in point: I am looking into buying more pinup/ rockabilly clothing since I am finding I really love the style. The brand that fits me the best (so far) is Hell Bunny, which is out of the UK. But I can only wear their dresses that have elastic around the zipper, and even then I have to wear a 4X.

On the opposite end of the weird spectrum, I was just at Old Navy today and bought several tops. My size there? XL. Their XXL makes me drown in fabric.

Granted, Hell Bunny is a very different type of clothing and is probably far more structured than your average ON top, but at the same time... why such a difference? It's totally whacked out. It makes me wonder how on earth people buy so many clothes online since there's no guarantee anything will fit, especially if you are buying from a country who's sizes are different than North American sizes -a UK22 is not a US22.

I've never really cared much about my clothes when I was growing up. I was very much a "I like the colour, I think it'll fit so let's go" kind of girl, but I am a lot more aware now of how things fit and what looks good on me as a person. I am more aware of sizing differences between brands and stores so I am definitely learning the value of trying clothes on before I buy them! I spent far too many years assuming things would fit only to find they didn't for one reason or another.

I do like that stores like Forever 21 and Old Navy are making larger sizes, and making some of their current sizes more generous - five years ago, I could never have worn an XL Old Navy top, and I was smaller then! But today, I bought several tops in their XL size and they fit just fine. :) So kudos to some retailers for acknowledging that not all girls are built like sticks! I like that I can shop at more stores now than just Addition-Elle and Penningtons (the Canadian equivalents to Lane Bryant).

Work has been rough, as expected, but there's a week and a half left in December so I can make it.

We had our work Christmas party wherein our manager said to us, "turn off your computers for two hours. We're having food and games.". Getting paid for sitting around playing card games? Sign me up! A few people were grinches, but they always are around this time of year. One of them has NEVER participated as far as I can tell - not once in eight years has she even tried to join the Christmas party.

Hubby's party was good, too... the local Japanese place is always yummy.

Work, ech.

This week. UG. I was doing rather well until I realized yesterday just how much crap I'm in for on Monday since I have a massive pile of work and nobody to do it. Just like all 16 other Queen-Bees in the department.

We're having a TON of drama with the new "junior manager" positions since one of our manager-types is losing her power base to us and she is NOT happy about it. The two or three of her favourites that she let get away with just about anything are losing their protection and they are not happy. So all three of them are stirring up trouble and dissent among the other QBs. It's rough facing opposition like that but you just have to take it in stride... or so I've been told. I'm still trying to not take shit like this personally.

It bothers me a bit that they're so blatant about it and rather than talking to us directly, they just start whispers behind our backs.

Welcome to management, I guess.

I didn't think being a manager would be this stressful but it's been a real eye-opener having to manage people as well as work. Having to talk to people about things that need to be fixed will never be easy. But I have to learn how to do it. *sigh*

I got the most WONDERFUL email on Friday which made my entire week in one shot. Background - client service has a meeting with a fairly high-profile client on Monday and needs the study as soon as humanly possible to meet this deadline. She told us about this on Thursday. Person who normally handles this study is on evenings and CS is emailing during the day so I stepped in. On Thursday, I had originally told CS that same-day work isn't always feasible but "miracles happen, especially this time of year".

Friday, CS told me that "I really like what you said yesterday about miracles happening. It's been the thing that has kept me positive about this study rather than nervous."

SQUEE. I am doing my job well! ;) Best part? She really will get her study by Monday as I had all 4000 coded by yesterday before I left, we were just waiting for the last few responses to come in today or early Monday. I ROCK. Hehehehe.

So in between the stress, I have these little magical areas of good. I think most jobs are like that in the end.

Going to start work on a new cosplay this weekend. Going to teach myself how to make a sailor collar. Found a few tutorials online so I think I understand but I shall scrap fabric the heck out of it first! Hopefully in a couple of weeks The Boy and I can go out for a photoshoot.

If all goes well anyway.

Loooots of blue fabric!

Went fairly well. Had a good discussion with the fellow night supervisors and we talked about a few problem children and things to look out for. Sounds like I got landed with a hornets' nest of issues and personality clashes. Yay. It's also long been the 'lazy' shift - nobody is really around to supervise so for as long as I've been working with the department the night shift has never worked to the level of the day shift. While the cat's away and all that.

But overall, it was okay. It's quiet and stuff got done but it's definitely rather boring since nobody is around to answer emails after a certain hour so it's kind of annoying to run out of work and have nothing left until the next day.

One down, 14 to go. :)

Our first Halloween in the house. We didn't decorate too much but it is only our first year. Next year we'll put up a few more things, methinks.

Got about 75 kids overall, which was pretty awesome for the crappy weather we had. I'm rather pleased. Wore my Minnie Mouse and I had a few kids grin at the sight of me, and a few boys try and mooch a bit more candy by telling me I looked good. I won't complain! :)

The only blip was a rude asshat after work when I was waiting for the bus. Rather than change to bus home, only to change again for kids, I just wore my costume home. Had a drunk idiot say something sexually inappropriate while waiting at the stop but ah, well. At least someone finds me attractive?

Only took them a month to DO the interviews and then two weeks to decide...

Anyhow, I digress.

Rather than choose from amongst the three that applied, they just offered the job to us all. ;) So as of Monday, I get a raise and a new job title. Plus a crapton of other responsibilities but hey, I signed up for this.

It amuses me that my bosses think *I* will be the leader in the group of us when one of my co-workers is a force of nature and even a mountain couldn't move that girl when she puts her mind to something!

My manager and I had a geek moment when the Big Boss told me that they'd like to offer me the job and I did a snoopy dance in the chair. My manager laughed at me and we then proceeded to geek out while our big boss just looked confused. She who does not geek shall never understand. *sigh*

Essentially it's a junior manager. We would be her assistants and our list of duties is pretty extensive, but they're duties that NEED to be done. I know the other two people that applied and it just so happens that we're all friends. :) So the three of us have done a lot of talking about how these duties apply to us and the changes we would like to make in the department.

Overall, I think I did okay. My bosses seemed positive so that's a good sign. It's just nerve-wracking when you're interviewed by people who know you very well and you're really not sure what they're looking for.

Sort of. I hate having to justify myself at work and explain why people aren't happy with my efforts when I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY HATE ME. I think that particular group are just a bunch of bitches that are determined to hate everyone. Ever since we took them over, the whole lot of them have been on the warpath, trying to find *anything* to bitch at us about. Even the smallest thing, like forgetting a comma, can set them off.

Ah well. As long as I can back up my "I did everything I was TOLD" then it's all sort of good.

Have a large backlog of shows to watch, but am finally starting to catch up.

Currently watching season 1 of Warehouse 13. I like so far! Only four episodes in, but I adore Pete and Myka already. Their relationship is so fun. I've been fighting the urge to just marathon the remaining episodes from the first season in one sitting, but I think I'd rather do maybe 2 a night. We'll see! :)

Next up after that is American Horror Story and Dexter, I think. Who knows, though? Maybe I'll just end up watching all four seasons of Warehouse 13 instead, lol.

So many problems with my studies, and the people I supervise. Something has to give in that place, and I hope it's not the sanity of those of us who truly care about our jobs. So many others just don't give a frick and it shows.

It sucks that it's the same people creating huge piles of mess, and the same people who clean it up every time. Do we ever get thanked for it? Nope. It just becomes expected of us when the same things happen again.

Despite it all, I still like my job for the most part.

Been a very long week... work isn't crazy-busy yet so it was a bit slow. But steady, so it wasn't too bad.

Another ghost hunt on Friday, and I had a smoke reading which really makes me go "hrm". I've seen her read for other people but having a reading done for myself was quite a different experience.

Doctor Who nearly made me cry last night... I don't even LIKE Amy as a character but watching her last episode was still heart-wrenching.

Finally getting around to playing the new chapters of Pottermore. Got stuck on the pixies so I shall have to try again tomorrow. I just didn't feel like fighting with a game anymore!

Been playing a lot of video games lately - started Final Fantasy VI and am about 10 hours in. It's sort of addictive. I just wish I could master this one attack!

People are still grouchy, but I have enough friendly and funny people I deal with that it balances out in the end. I had a few good giggles this week courtesy of my favourite client people, so I can't complain too much overall.

The only real downer the last couple of days has been getting sick. I think it's just a minor cold, but it sucks when it hits in combination with other things. Ah, well... get it out of my system now, before my birthday!

People have been exceptionally negative over the past few days. I hate feeling like I'm on the wrong end of something, except the severe dislike the other half of our company has for the legacy people. It's very frustrating getting nothing but cold words and stone walls when you ask for help or for instructions on how to do things.

Got an email from my boss yesterday to let me know that she got a complaint about me and what my side of the story was. The list of complaints the bitch who doesn't like me had was looooooong and uh... I'm HUMAN. Sometimes shit happens, and her list of 'issues' was utter bullshit anyway. Doesn't make me feel any better since I still have to deal with this bitch on a regular basis. Joy.

Spending time with friends today helped. Got the sewing room sort of straightened out, so yay.

Very stressful overall - my family has had a rough time this year with the health of our pets. We lost two of our three 'old' cats (one was 8 years old, the other was 19 years old) and last weekend we nearly lost the third. He's doing better now, but he's still not quite out of the woods. I don't think any of us could take it if we lost him, too.

Work has been stressful - short weeks make for short tempers, and month end is rough for everyone. We got through it, but it's definitely not fun. I did have a co-worker tell me the other day that I always act so composed and never seem like things are getting to me. I just laughed at her - I'm either a very good actress, or this co-worker has never been around during one of my semi-frequent meltdowns! My secret though is delegating - when I have a huuuuge pile of work, I tend to fling most of it at other people so that I'm left with only the things that I *truly* have to do. If it's basic setup or editing, someone else can do it. :)

Been unpacking pretty much all weekend. Found some of my good jewelery, and some of my costume stuff. It's been like Christmas, lol. Have a few boxes yet to go through, and my hubby has to lug a few boxes to different locations since they're too heavy for me.

My next big project is going to be purging my sewing room of fabric scraps and bad fabric types. I think that weekend, I will dump all five containers on the floor and sort by colour. I'll just have to remember to label the newly-filled containers afterwards!

Been busy unpacking these past few days. Moved all the big stuff on Wednesday, now comes all the putting our living space back together. The basement was full of boxes but now it's only 50% full. :) I've been busy! A lot of the boxes that I didn't fully unpack are boxes of my sewing stuff so I need to have a weekend of purging fabric. One of these upcoming weekends. :)
